David Rosengarten of Gourmet Magazine calls il Buco "one of the best, most exciting restaurants in the whole of America ... Lately, after a string of spectacular evenings at il Buco, I've been uttering the restaurant's name in response to the question 'What restaurant should I go to on my one night in New York?'. To my taste, il Buco is that good, and that special ..."

With its "Primitive American" country tables, candle & kerosene lighting, artisanal chandeliers and antique furnishings remaining from it's beginnings as an antique store, il Buco's is, as New York Magazine puts it: "a setting for an endless, casually chic dinner party". The Daily News adds: "The setting gets you a little tipsy even before the first glass of wine."

The New York Times' Ruth Reichl elaborates: "The restaurant, which sits on an unwelcoming stretch of Bond Street is unlike any other in New York ...It is easy to imagine that you've wandered into a little place in a back street of Madrid. The food certainly fosters the illusion: eating your way through this menu of tapas and appetizers is an exhilarating experience. The food is so good that with a group of six or seven it is tempting to go right through the menu."

In Zagat Survey 2001, il Buco is recognized as "a 'charming', 'antiques-filled setting' with a 'candlelit cellar' and 'stellar' menu. This transporting NoHo Mediterranean is 'the perfect place to fall in love...'"
Also, we would like to thank all of those who voted il Buco as "one of the best restaurants in the city," garnering us the Zagat Survey 2001 Award of Distinction.
